Sale of Bonds
$44.77 million for the improvements; state contributed $11.4 million
The district worked closely with its financial advisor to determine the most fiscally responsible approach to selling the bonds. The best option was to sell in two phases:
- April 2025: First sale for La Grande Elementary School purchase (30 year bond)
- November 2025: Second sale to fund electrical and HVAC (20 year bond)
Structuring it this way saves the district over $5 million in interest costs.
Estimated Tax Impact
- Scotch Plains: Estimated $14/month for owner of home assessed at Scotch Plains’ average ($126,191)
- Fanwood: Estimated $12/month for owner of home assessed at Fanwood’s average ($469,385)
